The Scammer follows Jordyn Monroe, a freshman at a prestigious historically Black college in Washington, D.C., who hopes to finally feel at home away from her overprotective parents. When her roommate’s older brother Devonte—recently released from prison—moves in, he seems charming, wise, and helpful at first. He gives guidance, encourages philosophical thinking, and pulls Jordyn and her suite mates into his orbit. But what begins as mentorship soon turns into something darker: Devonte’s influence becomes manipulative and controlling, and Jordyn starts to suspect something sinister beneath his charismatic facade.
