The story follows David Charleston, a teenager living in the steel-transformed ruins of Chicago, now called Newcago, ruled by an invincible Epic named Steelheart. David’s father was killed by Steelheart in an incident that defies logic—David saw Steelheart bleed, something everyone believes is impossible.

Now obsessed with revenge and driven by that one moment of vulnerability, David joins a secret rebel group called The Reckoners, a band of ordinary humans fighting back against the Epics. Together, they plot to uncover Steelheart's weakness and bring him down.
