Book Clubs

Good books are even better when we read them together.

Whether you’re looking for your next can’t-put-down read, love comparing a book to its screen adaptation, or simply want to meet other readers in Jefferson City, there’s a seat for you at The Curious Turtle.

Our book clubs are relaxed, welcoming, and built around the joy of sharing stories. You don’t have to be a literary expert, finish every page, or have the perfect answer to join us. Come for the books, stay for the conversation, and maybe leave with a few new friends.

Breaking News Book Club

The books everyone is talking about.

You know those books that seem to be everywhere? The ones that have readers staying up too late, texting their friends, and saying, “You have to read this”? That’s what Breaking News Book Club is all about.

Each month, we choose a buzzy new release or a highly anticipated title and read it together. Our selections span genres, so one month might bring a twisty thriller, the next a sweeping fantasy, and the next a contemporary novel that gives us plenty to discuss.

What to expect:

  • A new or highly anticipated book selected each month
  • A relaxed, spoiler-friendly group discussion
  • A chance to discover books outside your usual reading comfort zone
  • 15% off the current book club selection when purchased at The Curious Turtle

You don’t have to love every book to enjoy the conversation. In fact, sometimes the books we disagree about make for the best discussions.

Book v. Movie Book Club

Read it. Watch it. Decide which one did it better.

The book is always better… right? Our Book v. Movie Book Club is here to put that theory to the test.

Each month, we choose a book that has been adapted for film or television. Read the book, watch the adaptation, and join us as we compare the two. We’ll talk about favorite scenes, casting choices, changes from page to screen, and whether the adaptation captured what made the original story special.

From beloved classics to contemporary bestsellers, this club is perfect for readers and movie lovers alike.

What to expect:

  • A monthly book and its film or television adaptation
  • Discussion of both the book and the screen version
  • A mix of genres, classics, and modern favorites
  • 15% off the current book club selection when purchased at The Curious Turtle

You’re welcome to join even if you’ve only finished the book or only watched the movie. Just know that spoilers are part of the fun!
